Living & Travelling in China

Being an international student in China is an unforgettable and rewarding experience. China has one of the world's most well-developed & fast railway systems, making it both convenient and affordable to travel around this vast and fascinating country. Urban public transport systems are also efficient and modern.  

Language

Mandarin, or Putonghua, is the official language of China, and is spoken throughout the country. Most Chinese people also speak the local dialect of their hometown.

Getting around without Mandarin

It is certainly possible to live in China without speaking the Chinese language, as many young people especially College or University students speak English to a reasonable level as English is taught from primary and middle school. However, if you know at least the basic language it will make life easier.

Accommodation

Most Chinese universities provide very good and comfortable dormitories especially for international students. You may also choose to rent an apartment outside the university.

 Visa for China

  • Study Visa – (X-visa) is for a course for more than 6 months.
  • Business Visa -–  (F-visa) is for a course for less than 6 months.

If you enter China on a Tourist Visa – (L-visa), you will be required to change your visa status to the relevant visa after entering China, if your programme of study is longer than 1 month.

Applicants should apply for a Chinese visa from their nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate.

After receiving the university's Admission Notice and the JW202 Form, you may begin preparations for studying abroad in China.

Medical Insurance

Students are required to have medical insurance, which may cost around RMB600 per year.

Airport Pickup

Students must arrange their airport pickup before arrival in China.
